Plastics Trainings

High performance polymers, reinforcements, compounding, injection moulding, eco-design of plastic parts, ... which areas need to be highlighted ?

SBS Plastics Trainings are tailor-made training programs to fit the needs of your company and your employees. The training sessions can be organised in-house (high efficiency, no travel required by your employees) and are available in English, French and German.

The topics covered are raw materials (polymer types, properties, applications, fillers and additives, ...), plastics processing (injection moulding, extrusion, blow moulding, compounding, ...) and part performances (raw material selection, test methods, design of parts, troubleshooting, ...) and circular economy.

The training courses are aimed at technical departments (R&D, Quality Control, Manufacturing, Technical Service, Design, ...), commercial departments (Sales, Purchasing, Marketing, Product Management, ...) or management functions of companies belonging to different industry segments (automotive,  E & E, packaging, ...). SBS serves as main customers raw material producers or distributors, plastics converters, OEM’s and/or design offices.

We invite you to contact SBS for the elaboration or your specific training course.

Some examples of training programs

Plastics : properties & processing (4 days)

  • Thermoplastics & thermosets; polymer structures (amorphous vs. semi-crystalline) & physical properties
  • Polymer fillers & additives
  • Polymer families, their property profile and applications areas : commodity polymers (polyolefin’s, styrenic’s, vinyl’s, …), technical polymers (PA, POM, PBT, …), high performance polymers (PEEK, PPS, PVDF, …), thermoplastic elastomers, thermosets
  • Processing techniques: extrusion, injection moulding, blow moulding, thermoforming, ...

Injection moulding of thermoplastics (2-3 days)

  • Thermoplastic materials for injection moulding: amorphous vs. semi-crystalline polymers, their behaviour during injection moulding (flow, shrinkage, ...)
  • The injection moulding machine: architectures & characteristics, the injection & the closing / clamping unit
  • The injection moulding process: the different phases of the injection moulding cycle (injection, holding pressure, cooling phase), processing conditions

Understanding failures of injection moulded plastic parts (2 days)

  • Rheological behaviour of thermoplastic materials during injection moulding
  • Quality control in injection moulding
  • Analysis of part defects (short shots, sink marks, Diesel effect, warpage, jetting, ...) & failure modes ( moulding parameters, mould and part design)

NB. For this course we recommend the preliminary attendance of the training "Thermoplastics : properties & processing".

Design of injection moulded plastic parts (3 days)

  • Flow chart of design
  • Basic design concepts
  • Tolerances & shrinkage
  • Assembling technologies

NB. For this course we recommend the preliminary attendance of the training "Thermoplastics : properties & processing".

Circular Plastics (New)

  • Circular Economy
  • Polymers and their additives, fillers & reinforcements
  • Family of polymers
  • Material selection for sustainable applications & recyclability
  • Plastics processing technologies
  • Plastics recycling and use of recyclates
  • Design and assembling of plastic parts
